Base 4 Aviation was founded in 2001, and it’s aim was to create a one stop helicopter business, fulfilling the needs and requirements of any helicopter related issues. They also opened the Flight Academy to assist flying enthusiasts to obtain their pilot licences.

Base 4 Flight Academy is a CAA accredited Aviation Training school that offers helicopter licence courses, and all training is indertaken from the General Aviation Area at Cape Town International Airport.

Training School Courses:

  • Private Pilot Licence – first basic course in obtaining a licence for recreational flying or as first step to becoming a professional Commercial Pilot.
  • Commercial Pilot Licence (Helicopter) – by obtaining the CPL(H), you are employable and can start working for money as a helicopter pilot.
  • Ratings – Night Rating, Instructors Rating, Instrument Rating, Game Capturing Rating, Sling Rating.

Pilot Training | Cape Town Flying Club | Cape Town

Cape Town Flying Club offers formal training with highly qualified instructors at the Cape Town International Airport, where the Club is based. Formal training options include SPL, PPL, CPL Licences, Night Rating, Instrument Rating and Instructors Rating.

Pilot Training:

  • SPL (Student Pilot’s License) – enables student to fly alone, with the approval of an instructor.
  • PPL (Private Pilot’s License) – to obtain your PPL you must fly a minimum of 45 hours, and will be required to pass exams on 8 subjects during the course of his training.
  • CPL (Commercial Pilot’s License) – the first step in turning a hobby into a potential career, the holder may fly for a reward.
  • Night Rating – excellent first stepping stone for a PPL holder who wants to improve his qualifications.
  • Instrument Rating – a pilot may fly in adverse weather conditions of certain types.
  • Instructors Rating – for any pilot with a CPL who wishes to give flying instruction.

Fixed Wing Training | Wings over Africa | Cape Town

Wings over Africa Flying School is based at the Delta 200 Airfield in a general flying area, and specialises in fixed wing and microlight flight training. The owner is a Grade 2 PPL instructor and a Grade A Microlight instructor. The flying school offers special international student packages that include the PPL course, accomodation and transport.

Fixed Wing PPL Training:

  • PPL (Private Pilot License) – Instructor & School aircraft and all pre- and post flight briefings.
  • CAA Required Hours of Flying Instruction: 45 Hours, approximately 30 Hours Dual (depending on student performance), and 15 Hours Solo under supervision, and dual and solo cross-country to be done.
  • Aircraft options – Jabiru J400 (4-seater), Jabiru SP.
  • Practical Flight Test is done by a different Instructor.
  • Fuel & Oil included.
  • Ground Schooling Subjects – Principles of Flight, Meteorology, Aircraft Technical, Navigation, Flight Planning, Human Performance, Air Law and Radio Course; Examinations.
