Cape Town Flying Club offers formal training with highly qualified instructors at the Cape Town International Airport, where the Club is based. Formal training options include SPL, PPL, CPL Licences, Night Rating, Instrument Rating and Instructors Rating.
Pilot Training:
- SPL (Student Pilot’s License) – enables student to fly alone, with the approval of an instructor.
- PPL (Private Pilot’s License) – to obtain your PPL you must fly a minimum of 45 hours, and will be required to pass exams on 8 subjects during the course of his training.

Stellenbosch Flying Club specialises in Private Pilot Licence (PPL) and Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) training courses. The Club is accredited by the CAA for the following courses that include the PPL and CPL courses, and a Radio License course, Multi-Engine Rating, Night Rating, Safety Rating, Instrument Rating, Instructors Rating and Aircraft Type Rating.
CPL Training Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age.
- General Radio Licence.
- Total flying time of 200 hours.
- Including – 100 hours as Pilot in Command.
- 20 Hours cross country flying.
- 1 x day 300nm cross country flight with at least 2 landings.
- 1 x night 150 nm triangular cross country flight plus 10 hours Night Flying.
